Putting in Power tilt/trim motor in my boat, what do I need?
So I have an old, 16 ft. Starcraft boat that I’ve been using for the past couple of years. I have been getting by with Manual tilt, but I wanna replace the old power tilt system that no longer works. I have a late ’70s model Johnson Outboard (70 HP…wanna say it’s a 1979). I need to know what specific things I need to look for in terms of matching the part to my engine, I need to know what tools I will need, as well as any other information anyone is willing to give me. If you can cite your sources and offer me websites, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks all!
Don’t have the hole answer for you, but.. Have you brought it already? Did it come with intructions? I helped a friend a few years ago a system on his 17 ft boat. I called him, he has since sold the boat, along with the paper work. The first issue we had was what to stand this 75hp motor on. It must of wieghed over 2oo lbs. or more. I remeber we marked / measured all the cable lenghts and distance between motor and stern and cavatation plate on motor to distance to bottom of hull. removal , marking location of new jacking plate, loaction for hydrolic tank and pump and fure wiring. It took a few weekends. The main thing is TAKE YOUR TIME. Measurement with plate on motor first( we jerry the plate with it not even on anything to find what with the very center before mounting. Then with this mounted on motor -what was the measurement to where cavatation plate( like the old motor location). Well hoped this helped. Just to give up an idea of what you a facing.
